InterEast is climate neutral during Earth Day
In 2020 InterEast took the steps to make its administration climate neutral. Combined with this venture InterEast is entirely climate-neutral during Earth Day. The transport industry generates almost a third of all greenhouse gas emissions globally. Around half of that is from trucks, ships, trains, and planes.
– Huge challenges lie ahead to make the transport industry more sustainable. Even though InterEast is a smaller player and can’t make a big effect on technological progress, we focus on being part of the solution, not the problem, says Gustav Hagberg.
InterEast believes that sustainability needs to be found in every part of their organization and the goal is that 25% of all their transport shall be climate neutral, by 2025. Read InterEast’s vision document 25by25 here.
Climate compensation is not a long-term solution
It can take away the focus from efforts to reduce emissions and create the illusion that one can buy oneself free from necessary technological and behavioural changes. InterEast climate compensates in UN-certified projects. Until the technological advancements have caught up, and the transition towards even more efficient engines and fuel is available, these projects are the best realistic options. The alternative, laying low and waiting for change, is not an option for InterEast.
– The time to act was yesterday. We have a lot of catching up to do. With this initiative on Earth Day April 22, we show our clients the more sustainable options available and try to inspire our industry colleagues and partners to do the same, says Oscar Törnqvist, CEO at InterEast.

The transport sector needs to become more sustainable
Transport demand in 2021 rebounded from the covid-19-related drop in 2020, with demand for cargo transport expected to continue increasing rapidly. Even with anticipated growth in transport demand, the Net Zero Emissions by 2050 Scenario requires transport sector emissions to fall by 20% to 5.7 Gt by 2030. New policies and modal shifts toward more efficient and sustainable options are a must. As a small international player InterEast is ramping up the effort in pushing climate-neutral transport options to the market.
